Question Description

I’m working on a history writing question and need the explanation and answer to help me learn.

Gordon-Reed — there is a question and answer section at the end of the video which you are not required to watch, but it is interesting nonetheless.

Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, in which he wrote perhaps the most powerful five words in human history: “All men are created equal.”  Thomas Jefferson owned more slaves than any other President, and one of his slaves, Sally Hemings, became pregnant by him several times.  Those children became slaves, too.

How should we remember Jefferson and how can we keep these two facts in our minds at the same time?  Remember to keep Professor Gordon-Reed’s talk in your mind as you are crafting your response.
